Our Prayer Requests

Our Pastor at our home church often reminds the church of this truth: "Prayer can do anything God can do." If I really took that to heart and believed it fully, it would not only change HOW I prayed but how OFTEN I prayed!

We believe prayer to the One True God works in ways that nothing else does. So we list our prayer requests each month and ask you to pray for one or all of them, expecting the Lord to answer! Thanks, in advance, for your prayers for us and for the couples the Lord is bringing!

Listen to my words, Lord, consider my lament. Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to You I pray. In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before You and wait expectantly. Psalm 5:1-3

FOCUS FOR 2025: Pray for our preparation in prayer before each session. That we would be consistently and fervently praying for the Spirit to fill and control us. Pray for the leading of the Holy Spirt in sessions - to lead us to truth and Scripture that helps couples grow in humility and Christ-likeness. Pray for the Spirit to move us to share the fundamental need for the Gospel more boldly, to non-Christians for salvation, and for Christians for growth in sanctification. Pray against the attacks of the enemy as we expect more spiritual battles for these couples and for us.

NEXT GENERATION: Please pray that Abiding Marriage, through its outreaches, would be helping raise up a new generation of Christ-centered couples that will impact their local neighborhoods, churches, and communities for God's Kingdom purposes.

FIRST LOVE AND COMMUNITY: This is our consistent prayer: That we would never lose our "first love" for Jesus Christ and the pursuit of a deeply abiding relationship with Him. And after that, we would continue to make it a priority to be deeply connected to Christ-centered community in and outside of our local church.

February 2025

EARS TO HEAR: Many times in the New Testament, we hear Jesus saying the phrase "ears to hear". Please pray that Glen and Shawn, as well as our kids and their spouses, would indeed have ears to hear the Lord as He speaks and then respond in obedience. As Jesus says in John 10:27: "My sheep recognize my voice, and I know them, and they follow me." (TLB)

CELEBRATING IN FEBRUARY: Our daughter, Sarah, and daughter-in-law (Josh's wife), Annie, both have birthdays in the month of February. So thanks for taking a moment to pray for both of those precious young women that are so dear to us. We thank God for giving us our daughter, Sarah, and for joining Annie to our family as well!!

BUSY JANUARY: In addition to the normal counseling load, there are a lot of administrative things that need to get done in January as we close out 2024 and begin 2025. Please pray for the Lord's wisdom, strength, and patience in getting these things done in the required timeframe.

THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL IN 2025: Please pray for Glen and Shawn (and for our kids and spouses as well) that we would truly be growing in gratitude and thankfulness for God's mercy and goodness that He so richly shares with us. And even in tough times, we can give thanks knowing He is with us and will never leave or forsake us!

JOY OF THE CHRISTMAS SEASON: Please pray for Shawn and I, as well as our adult kids and their spouses, to truly experience the great joy that should accompany this Christmas Season! That in all the activity and busy-ness of this time of year, we would take time to reflect and give thanks for the greatest gift ever given - Jesus!!

TIME OFF: As is usually our custom, we take time off from ministry work between Christmas Eve and New Years Day. Please pray both of us would really take time to rest. Yes, we have things we would like to accomplish, but there would be rest and peace in the midst of the things we choose to do during that time period.

THANKFUL AND GRATEFUL: We shared this last month, but we are asking for continued prayer on this. Please pray for Glen and Shawn (and for our kids and spouses as well) that we would truly be growing in gratitude and thankfulness for God's mercy and goodness that He so richly shares with us. The longer we go on meeting with couples, the more we are reminded of how we need "The Counselor" in order to rightly counsel couples. Pray we both would be continually filled with the Holy Spirit so He is the real source of the counseling and not us!

NEW BOARD MEMBER! Please praise the Lord with us in that He has provided a new Abiding Marriage Board member who will join the Board in the Fall of 2025. We are thankful for this friend and Pastor who will make a great addition to the Board!

BOARD MEMBER NEEDED: Please continue to pray for the Lord to lead us to the right person to join our Abiding Marriage Board of Directors to replace another member who is leaving because of job demands. Pray for the Lord to direct us to the right person and for them to be a great addition to our Board.

FAMILY REQUESTS: Please pray for our son, Caleb, and his wife, Taylor, as they travel to Italy this month - for safe travel and for a great experience. Pray also for our son, Josh, and his wife, Annie, as they move into a new house the middle of October. Pray for our daughter, Sarah, that she would continue to develop Christ-centered community. And finally pray for Glen and Shawn as we get away for a few days in early November to celebrate our 32nd anniversary!

NEXT GENERATION: Please pray that Abiding Marriage, through its outreaches, would be helping raise up a new generation of Christ-centered marriages that will impact their local communities for God's Kingdom purposes.

SUPERNATURAL WISDOM: Please pray for the Lord to give Shawn and I and our Board His wisdom and leading as we move into these last months of 2024. We want to follow His lead on the specific ways He wants us to try to help couples - whether those are things we are already doing or new things He wants us to begin doing.

GOD'S LEADER TO HELP: As we had shared last month, one of our current Board Members will be stepping off the Board at the end of 2024. Please pray for the Lord to lead us to the right person to take his place and to help continue to lead this ministry in 2025 and beyond.

FOCUS ON ABIDING: Please pray for Glen and Shawn to be consistently abiding in Christ in our everyday lives. And by remaining in Him, we will have His joy and bear much fruit for His Kingdom.

CONTINUED PRAYER FOR 2024: As we shared earlier this year, please pray steadfastly for us 1) Obeying the will of God, 2) Being empowered by the Spirit of God, and 3) Serving faithfully for the glory of God. We want to be used by Him to make a difference in the lives of husbands and wives!

July 2024

COUNSELING PREPARATION: As we prepare to counsel couples, pray the Lord would speak to us prior and during the session about His direction. That we would be filled with the Holy Spirit and be led by Him during each and every counseling session.

GOD'S LEADER TO HELP: One of our current Board Members will be stepping off the Board at the end of 2024. Please pray for the Lord to lead us to the right person to take his place and to help continue to lead this ministry in 2025 and beyond.

TRANSITION TO HOME OWNERSHIP: Please pray for our youngest son, Caleb, and his wife, Taylor. They have purchased a house here in Maumelle and will be moving in later in July. Pray for the Lord to help and guide them in this transition and to continue to provide for them.

LAST MONTH'S UPDATE: Please continue to pray that Glen's heavy metal levels will remain in the normal range. We are so thankful for the Lord's work to accomplish this through some great medical folks!

June 2024

FROM OUR JUNE UPDATE: Please continue to pray that Glen's heavy metal levels will remain in the normal range. We are so thankful for the Lord's work to accomplish this through some great medical folks!

BUSY, BUSY SEASON: Our counseling load is as busy as it has ever been since starting Abiding Marriage and is not showing signs of slowing down. Please pray for us to maintain a healthy balance of work and rest, while still serving couples well!

SUMMER TRAVEL: Please be praying for our adult kids and their spouses as they do a good bit of traveling this Summer. Some of their travel is here in the US and some is overseas. Thanks for your prayers for them for both gratitude for these trips and safety during them.

May 2024

FROM OUR MAY UPDATE: As we shared, please be praying for us to shepherd well the couples God is bringing from other states to do virtual marriage counseling. In addition, please also pray for God to give us His discernment to know the ways He wants us to help younger couples lay a solid foundation for their marriage.

CHRISTLIKE HUMILITY: We are fully convinced that humility is a critical foundation for walking with the Lord. Pray that both Glen and Shawn will actively fight the pride we all have and truly walk in Christlike humility.

PREMARITAL CLASS ENDING: As we finish up our premarital class mid-May, please pray the three couples who have joined us would truly lay a Christ-centered foundation for thier upcoming marriages.
